Al-Anon Declaration
Houston Intergroup and Al-Anon/Alateen community as a whole
depend on the generosity of its volunteers.
Overview
On a weekday (non-holiday), our volunteers take the phones from about 3:00 p.m. to 10:00 a.m. the following morning. Whether or not they answer the phones during the night is up to them. On the weekends, the phones are transferred 24 hours.
The only requirement is that the volunteer is an Al-Anon member who has a phone or cellphone that can take the calls during the designated time. We generally have about 300 calls per month or about 10 per day. Calls are answered from your home or cellphone. You do not go to a call center, but do this in the comfort of your own home, or elsewhere. You would take a call, and help someone find a meeting, or transfer the call to a 12th-Step Phone Volunteer who can speak to the caller more in-depth.

Application
ETAA approved the reorganization of District 5 into 5 new districts (5, 14, 15, 16, & 17). Each district will need to set up its officers, committee positions, bank accounts, and primary purpose. All Group Representatives and members of Al-Anon within each district are asked to contact the new District Representative(s) for service opportunities.
Ready to grow! Volunteering your time and/or talents can be beneficial to your overall growth but you will really get to develop meaningful lifelong friendships. Talk to your sponsor, talk to those who announce events in your meetings, attend a District Meeting, or Intergroup Board Meeting; ask how you can assist?
A Step Sponsor is very important to our growth as we work through the steps and learn to live life on life's terms. When we start exploring giving back through Service Opportunities it may also be beneficial to have a Service Sponsor, someone to who has had experience in Service Work within the Al-Anon Service Arms. A mentor and confident to discuss and help us further grow in applying the principals of this program in all our affairs.
